Trip Overview

Most travellers go to Rwanda for the gorillas and miss the country’s other side: Lake Kivu — a vast volcanic-shore lake stretching 90 km along the western border, with serene fishing villages, sunset boat cruises and some of the world’s best high-altitude coffee. This four-day luxury escape is built for honeymooners or gorilla-trek travellers who want a few quiet days at the end of an active trip. From the lakeside town of Gisenyi (or Kibuye), boat tours visit Napoleon Island’s fruit-bat colonies, the singing fishermen who chant their nets in at dusk, and the volcanic hot springs of Bushenge. Inland coffee-estate tours show you bean-to-cup Rwandan coffee — from picking and washing through fermentation to your final espresso.
