After breakfast, transfer from your hotel to Wilson Airport, allowing about 30 to 45 minutes depending on where you are staying in Nairobi. Check in for your scheduled flight to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The flight to the Mara takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the airstrip and flight schedule. On arrival, your camp driver-guide will meet you and your safari begins straight away. There is no need for a separate transfer to camp. The drive from the airstrip to Elewana Sand River Masai Mara becomes your first game drive, giving you the chance to start looking for wildlife as you make your way across the reserve. Arrive at the camp in time for lunch, check in and settle into your accommodation. Take some time to relax before heading back out in the afternoon for your first dedicated game drive. Your guide will take you across the grasslands in search of lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and other wildlife. As the afternoon cools, continue through the reserve before returning to camp in the evening.

Today is all about the Maasai Mara National Reserve, with no need to leave the reserve for another destination. Start the morning with an early game drive while the air is cool and wildlife is active. After some time on the plains, return to camp for breakfast and a chance to relax before heading out again. You can also spend most of the day in the reserve with a picnic lunch. This gives you more time on the plains and allows your guide to take you into different areas of the Mara as the day unfolds. The Maasai Mara is home to lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, cheetahs and leopards, so there is plenty to look for as you move through the reserve. If you travel during the Great Migration season, the plains can also fill with large herds of wildebeest and other migrating animals. The timing and location of the herds change from season to season, so your guide will follow the movements on the ground to give you the best opportunities for sightings. Return to the lodge in the evening after a full day on safari.

Your second full day in the Maasai Mara gives you another full day in the reserve without having to pack up and move on. Start with an early morning game drive, when the Mara is already coming alive, then return to camp for breakfast. You can head out again in the afternoon, or take a picnic lunch and spend most of the day out on safari, giving you more time to follow the wildlife and enjoy the reserve at your own pace. Your guide can shape the day around what you would most like to see and what is happening in the reserve. If you would like to add something different to the safari, there are also optional experiences to choose from. An early-morning hot-air balloon safari takes you above the Mara for a completely different view of the plains and wildlife below. You can also visit a Maasai village and spend some time learning about the local way of life and culture. Both experiences are optional and are not included in the standard safari package. Return to Elewana Sand River Masai Mara in the evening for your final night in the Maasai Mara.

Wake up early for your final game drive in the Maasai Mara. The morning is a great time to make the most of your last hours in the reserve, when the day is still cool and the wildlife is active. After the game drive, return to camp for breakfast and check out. You’ll then set off to the airstrip, with the drive taking you through the Mara once more, with the journey itself becoming one final game drive through the reserve. Board your scheduled flight to Nairobi, with the flight taking around 1 hour. On arrival, your driver will meet you and transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, which is roughly 30 to 45 minutes from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport, depending on traffic. If you are connecting to an international flight, allow enough time between the two airports for the road transfer and possible traffic delays.
