Into the forest, where the chimpanzees live.
This 3 Day Kibale Chimpanzee Safari takes you into the tropical rainforest of Kibale National Park , Uganda's best-known chimpanzee tracking destination. It is a focused journey for travellers who want to spend time with wild chimpanzees without adding extra national parks or long lists of activities to a short safari.
Your adventure begins with a private road transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to the Kibale region. Spend 2 nights at Chimpundu Lodge or Turaco Treetops, giving you time to settle into the forest surroundings before your main wildlife experience.
On Day 2, join a ranger-guided chimpanzee tracking experience starting from Kanyanchu Visitor Centre. Your guide will lead you through the rainforest in search of a habituated chimpanzee community. You may hear loud calls echoing through the trees before catching sight of the animals feeding, resting or moving through the vegetation.
Once the chimpanzees are located, spend one permitted hour observing their behaviour. You may see adults grooming, younger animals playing, or chimpanzees feeding among the branches. Their location changes from day to day, so the length and character of the forest walk vary.
After tracking, return to your lodge for lunch and a free afternoon. The journey finishes on Day 3 with a private transfer to Kampala or Entebbe. If you have more time for additional wildlife experiences, explore our wider collection of Uganda safari packages .

Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest
Wake early for breakfast before transferring to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for your chimpanzee tracking experience . Meet the ranger guides for a briefing about the tracking rules, forest conditions and safety procedures.
After the briefing, enter Kibale's tropical rainforest with your ranger guide and trackers. The forest is home to chimpanzees and several other primate species, including red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys and L'Hoest's monkeys.
Follow the forest trails in search of a habituated chimpanzee community. As you walk beneath the canopy, listen for chimpanzee calls and watch for movement through the branches.
Chimpanzees are highly mobile, often travelling through the forest as they feed and interact. The search can take several hours, depending on where the chimpanzees are located and how they move that day.
Once you find the group, spend 1 permitted hour observing the chimpanzees. You may see them feeding, grooming, calling, climbing or interacting with other members of the community. Your ranger will guide the viewing experience and explain the behaviour you observe.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and rest. The afternoon is left free to relax and enjoy your accommodation after the forest walk. No additional scheduled activities are included.
Enjoy dinner and your second overnight at Chimpundu Lodge or Turaco Treetops.
Kibale to Kampala or Entebbe, End of Safari
After breakfast, check out of your lodge and begin the road journey back towards Kampala or Entebbe.
Travel through the countryside of western Uganda, passing green hills, farming areas and small towns on the return route. Stop for lunch and refreshments along the way before continuing to your final destination.
Depending on your onward arrangements, your guide will drop you at your hotel, residence or Entebbe International Airport. If you have an international flight on Day 3, allow sufficient time for road travel, traffic and airport check-in.
